Photography careers - News photographer

News photography is one of the most in-demand careers in the photographic industry. Having a photographer who can take pictures of news worthy events makes up part of the news gathering process.

Photography career path: The role of the news photographer

News photographers are sent out by agencies to cover specific events for special print editions, in-depth articles and general news stories. They are the eyes of the media agency who need to get a stream of high quality pictures in order so that they can be edited and used to present news to readers.

News photographers have a high paced style of work as they must adapt to news events as they occur. Photographers must often be fairly independent and will work either on a freelance basis or be hired specifically by  a news agency to cover particular kinds of events. These can include political rallies, film festivals, local town fairs and more.
