Jakob Tuggener exhibit

From 01st  July to the 18th of October

Montpellier art school present the Pavillon populaire exhibition

After the "Life in Kodak " exhibition, which retraces the famous Coloramas, the Pavillon Populaire now offers to visitors the possibility to discover the industrial saga of the 30’s, thanks to photos of the famous photographer and filmmaker Jakob Tuggener.

A critic of technical progress

The exhibition will show many original photographs  taken by Tuggener. Visitors will discover among others 72 pictures without text, from  the book Fabrik; some  images from the book will be presented in exclusivity.

Those images reveal an underlying  the author skepticism towards technical progress and highlights the relationship between men and machines. This ambitious exhibition provides a unique perspective on the industrial world from 1930 to 1950.

One feels  the influence of German expressionists in  Tuggener  work. He does not try to transcribe the truth, but rather tries  to express through the prism of its sensitivity, and its subjectivity, industrial transformations and mutations he  witnessed.
