The Illustrator is the person who knows how to put a story, press article or advertising message into images.

He must make each subject attractive, powerful and surprising. As an artist, he must be capable of appealing to his public and customers and meet their expectations through different forms of expression, using the visuals that he encounters: labels, posters, packaging materials or advertising. He deals in traditional and contemporary images, using symbols and anecdotes in turn or highlighting current events. His work is to put across a message, attract the eye ad share his passion through images. He uses a variety of media and handles corporate identity guidelines and registers – humour, caricature, mangas, etc. – in order to adapt to orders.

The Illustrator also has a high level of general knowledge and curiosity: he goes to exhibitions, reads the specialist press and is aware of the latest trends and technological innovations.

As a result of his creativity and imagination, he can work in print but is also capable of helping to create multimedia or audiovisual materials.


  • Analyse customer requirements and use pencils or paint to turn the concept and script into an initial visual representation.
  • Write the script, synopsis, statement of intent.
  • Model the pictorial components – volumes, objects, characters – and decide on the textures and colours.
  • Use the page layout rules, perspective, framing, lighting.
  • Illustrate and incorporate the text to complete the images, keeping to the typographic rules and corporate identity guidelines.
